ANNOUNCING OUR LATEST DEVELOPMENT
Willow Lake Métis Nation (WLMN) is proud to announce an exciting step forward in community health, sustainability, and local empowerment—the arrival of our very own Growcer Growpod. As part of our Growth and Equity Pillar, this initiative reinforces WLMN’s commitment to building community capacity, promoting economic inclusion, and creating long-term wellness for Citizens.
The Growpod represents more than just a food source—it symbolizes a future rooted in equity, where access to healthy, locally grown produce is no longer a barrier. It’s a tool for education, empowerment, and environmental responsibility, designed to support Citizens of all ages while aligning with traditional Métis values.
ABOUT THE GROWPOD
Our recently acquired Growpod is a self-contained, climate-controlled hydroponic farm capable of producing leafy greens and herbs all year long—even in Northern Alberta’s harshest seasons. With minimal environmental impact and no need for chemical pesticides, the Growpod provides a sustainable solution for food security.
Key features include:
- Year-round growing capability
- Automated irrigation and climate control systems
- Energy-efficient LED lighting
- Weekly harvests of up to 140 pounds of fresh produce
This addition to our Nation is a direct investment in Citizen well-being. By supporting local food production and economic development opportunities, the Growpod advances our goal of equitable access to health and nutrition, while also offering educational programming for youth and community members alike.
FUTURE PLANS
The Growpod is just the first step we have in a plan to build out the Nation's very own farm, established on the land we bought in 2022. The modular farm is launching July 2025. This space will highlight traditional food systems alongside new agricultural technologies—bridging the past with the future in a way that honours our culture and our Citizens.
